A new national voice for the intersection of Christian ministry and out-of-school-time programming.
A visionary faith-based nonprofit leader with over 20 years of experience leading and scaling a Christo-centric children and youth organization in Dallas, Texas.
Afterschool as Mission™ was founded by Edward L. Franklin — a nationally recognized leader in faith-based community development whose career has been anchored in serving children and families in under-resourced communities.
With more than two decades of hands-on experience leading, growing, and scaling a Christo-centric children and youth organization in Dallas, Texas, Edward brings rare depth to the intersection of Christian ministry and out-of-school-time (OST) programming. He has seen firsthand how afterschool programs can become powerful vehicles for both community transformation and kingdom impact.
Through AAM, Edward is channeling that experience into a national movement — educating and equipping churches, training leaders, building coalitions, and advocating for the role of the Church in afterschool ministry. His vision is clear: no community should lack a Christ-centered afterschool presence, and no church should miss this mission opportunity.
AAM will serve as the leading voice nationally for the intersection of Christian ministry and out-of-school-time programming — a space that has, until now, had no unified champion.
Connect with EdwardThere are over 10 million children in afterschool programs nationwide, with demand far exceeding supply in low-income communities. The need is vast and growing.
Churches possess physical space, volunteer capacity, and community trust — three critical ingredients for effective afterschool programming. They are uniquely positioned to serve.
Federal and state law permits religious instruction under specific conditions, yet most Christian OST providers remain unaware of what the law allows. AAM bridges that gap.
No national organization currently exists to unite, train, and advocate for Christian out-of-school-time providers — until Afterschool as Mission™.
AAM is establishing the National Christian Out-of-School-Time Association (NCOSTA) to unite Christian OST programs, church youth ministries, and Christian mentoring programs under one national umbrella, organized around eight core areas of practice.
