Meet the founder

Edward L. Franklin

For 21 years, Edward Franklin led a Christian afterschool and summer program in Dallas, Texas — living every challenge and milestone this work presents, from hiring and training frontline staff, to navigating financial crises, to coaching exhausted leaders back to health and hope.

That firsthand experience is the foundation of everything Afterschool as Mission does. Edward Franklin brings not just knowledge, but genuine understanding of what it means to lead this kind of ministry day in and day out — and a deep conviction that the leaders doing this work deserve the same quality of support they pour into others every day.

Edward Franklin's primary focus is the United States — where thousands of Christian afterschool and summer programs are doing vital Kingdom work, often without the support they need. But his passion extends further. Over the years he has built practitioner networks and partnerships across many countries — a global perspective that continually deepens and informs his domestic work. He knows that what God is doing through afterschool ministry is a global Kingdom story.

Edward Franklin is completing a Doctor of Ministry in ministry leadership at Dallas Theological Seminary and has recently begun a Doctor of Education in out-of-school learning at the University of Pittsburgh — bringing both pastoral depth and a growing academic foundation to this work.
